Question time [03 Aug 2011|08:13pm]

I know this is kind of a long shot since it is rather dead here, but there are still some followers.. I'm just curious if anyone here has any experiences with the country place townhomes, since I am thinking of a sublease there, but the apartment review website makes it sound pretty terrible. (mostly nickel and diming on damages)

So if anyone has experiences, id love go hear them. Also if you had numbers on utilities thatd be great too. I'm even to open to hearing if anyone loved different places. Thanks everyone :)

College Classifieds site built by GVSU alumn [05 Feb 2011|09:47am]

In 2007 we launched a site called p2pTextbooks built solely for GVSU students. With over $30,000 in textbooks traded the first year, and a nasty note from the preseident of the bookstore, we new it was worth expanding.

We just launched our biggest update that includes a slick new design and a ton of new features.  If you're new to the site or already a member, please let me know what you think of the new changes.

Hi there :)

I was wondering if anyone had any experience testing out of CS 150? I have heard from many people that it's a very easy class, and that it's more worthwhile to pay the fee to test out than to take a semester of the class. However - all of the people who have told me this haven't actually tested out. So GVSU what is your opinion on the matter? Is it worth it to test out of CS 150? Would I be able to pass the test with general computer and MS office knowledge? Would I be able to pass the test if I did a few exercises from the CS 150 book? Thanks in advance for anything you have to share about this!

Free Amazon Prime for students [08 Aug 2010|02:31am]

Amazon is currently giving free 1 year memberships to Amazon Prime (free 2 day shipping, $3.99 overnight shipping) to current students with a .edu email address: http://www.amazon.com/gp/student/signup/info I'm not sure how long they're offering this (it doesn't say on the site).

Just thought i'd give fellow students the heads up on this in case you haven't heard about it yet. This is going to save me a ton on shipping textbooks this year!

Does anyone even watch this comm anymore? Eh.

I will be returning to GV for grad school in the fall. Must decide where to live soon. I want to live in Grand Rapids or adjacent, definitely NOT in Allendale. If any of you have had a good experience with a particular local apartment (or a bad experience for that matter!), please let me know.

[Ideally I'd prefer somewhere fairly quiet, with not a lot of partiers and whatnot but also not completely isolated from where I would need to be. And I'd prefer to live alone, so somewhere with reasonable 1-bedroom rates.]

The International Contest of Young Lawyers “Precedent” is an on-line activity for students and young professionals. It's a bilingual contest where you can send the work in English or Russian.
It’s main goal is to give young lawyers and students a place to share opinions and try their skills. At the same time practicing lawyers and the one who is just interested in jurisprudence may participate.
There are two spheres where the participant may choose a case to resolve - intellectual property and private international law. Here’s the list of cases.
You can vote for the works and comment! Here are the approved solutions.
The Contest is held till 21 of June 2010. You can send a work up to June 15.

Prizes for the winners are granted!
Participate and tell your friends and classmates!

[05 May 2010|05:18pm]

so...I'm looking for a camera store. I know of Mark's on Division and Norman camera on 28th St, but they are like 30 minutes away. Anyone know of any camera stores that are closer to the central downtown area, or even in Standale or Jenison something like that? I just want to go and hold a few DSLRs to see how they feel in my hands before I decide to buy one online (or maybe in the store in their prices are better). Thanks!

Roommate Wanted [23 Apr 2010|04:41pm]

Hey all,
My friend and I are looking for a roommate to fill a spot in our 3 bedroom downtown. Our lease starts on May 15th, your share would be $200 a month, plus utilities (heat/electric).

We're both college students, my friend is down here from CMU, I go to GVSU. We're both laid back, like to cook, not too big into parties, non-smokers. We have a cat, FatMan, that would be residing with us.

The apartment itself was re-done a few years ago, it's the upper portion of the house. We have access to a fenced in yard, and a balcony. The owner and his wife live downstairs, and are very friendly.

We'd prefer a male roommate, but aren't opposed to living with another lady. If you're interested, comment below, and we can discuss it.

Great apartment available in May [06 Apr 2010|07:40pm]

I'm moving on to buy my own house and I need someone to take my apartment. It's a great opportunity to live downtown without the hassle of roommates. Also within easy walking distance of many downtown bars and clubs (Hop Cat, for instance, is approx. 7 blocks; The Winchester is approx. 4). AND at just $510 a month with ALL UTILITIES INCLUDED, it's a steal.

-1 bedroom, 1 bath apartment
-Great character throughout the whole apartment, i.e., clawfoot bathtub, built-in shelving unit, radiator heaters, huge cut-up windows, view of part of downtown, etc.
-Off-street designated parking, garage parking available for an extra fee
-Cats and other small animals (I have a rabbit) permitted
-Uncharacteristically for an old house, this place has awesome water pressure and I've never run out of hot water
-Big bedroom fits Queen size bed easily
-Walk in closet connected to bedroom and bathroom
-3rd floor - safer than ground floor and much quieter

The best part about the manor is that there is always something going on. A couple people hanging out on the porch on summer evenings quickly becomes a low-key party. The majority of people living here either have full time jobs or attend school full time, so the parties don't usually go too late and everyone is good at keeping the noise level down.

If you're interested, email me at Gina.Attee@ge.com or the property landlord McKenyon2@comcast.net. Refer to Apartment 34.

Need an apartment? [07 Dec 2009|02:42pm]

Hey everyone. I got stuck in a bad position and will be unable to move in with my friend into her apartment for the Winter 2010 semester. So, if you need housing in Allendale beginning as early as December 19th (or know someone who does- pass it on!), please read.

Where: Just off of 40th Ave. in Allendale (the street just past the Allendale sign).
What: 1 bedroom in a 2 bedroom, 2nd floor apartment. You would have your own bathroom and a shared kitchen and dining room. Coin laundry in the building, which is a smaller condo-type building that has 4 apartments (other buildings next to it). Quiet area, definitely not tons of parties going on every night.
Who: With my friend. Single non-smoking female with no pets (but pets are allowed). She is very school and job oriented, doesn't party a lot, is responsible and a very understanding person. She is 21, soon to be 22.
How much: It is $500 a month all inclusive (rent, electric/ water/ whatnot, cable, internet). This could be negotiable for certain circumstances.
What else: She already has shared furniture and stuff such as couches, chairs, tv, kitchen things, etc. She is a great person, very understanding easy to get along with. I was only going to live there for the winter 2010 semester, but there is definitely the opportunity to stay longer.

Please let me know if you are interested and I will be happy to answer any questions you have and put you in contact with her.

We can't pay, but will provide meals and transportation if necessary.

Anyone interested?

[ mood | cheerful ]

Hey Grand Valley!

Sorry for the short notice, but my friend Paolina and I are starting up a knitting group on campus and we thought we'd give it another try on Saturday. We're going to be in the piano room in Kirkhof from one to four, so even if you don't knit (or crochet...or tat...or whatever else), we'd be happy if you'd join us, even for just a little good conversation. ^_^
